As part of our Student Support Services program at Salem Elementary, we offer a variety of small group counseling groups throughout the year.

When:

Most groups occur during the lunch block but occasionally the teacher and counselor may workout a time other than lunch that does not take the student out of any academic instruction. Groups usually last about 6 weeks.

Who:

Student K-5 will be invited to participate in small group counseling. Lessons and topics are age-appropriate and target specific skills and strategies for that age group.

Topics:

The small groups that are offered at Salem will vary each year depending on need. Teachers, parents, counselors, and administration all work together to identify needs as the arise.

Possible/ frequent groups:

  • Academic Achievement Group

  • Organization Skills 101

  • GIRLS ROCK (self-esteem and self-worth)

  • SUPER boys (self-esteem and self-worth)

  • Social Skills group

  • Grief group

  • Attendance group

All groups require signed permission from a legal guardian for students to participate. Please contact Mrs.McNally, Ms. Wiggins, or your student's teacher if you would like more information about small group opportunities.
