At Salem Elementary, the needs of gifted and highly capable students are met in a variety of ways, including:
Domains that emphasize curricular integration, higher-level thinking, and creativity are delivered in the General Education classroom in consultation with the AIG teacher.
Grade-Level Small Group Enrichment is given by the classroom teacher in collaboration with the AIG teacher and/or by the AIG teacher in a "push-in" model.
Separate small-group instruction appurtenant to the grade-level standards is provided for students who have been formally identified as academically or intellectually gifted beginning in grade 3. Students spend 45 minutes a week per identified subject area in the AIG classroom.
Grade-level teams collaborate regularly with the AIG teacher on enrichment opportunities that are aligned with curriculum standards.
