A strong school library program harnesses the collective leadership and expertise of the Media and Technology Advisory Committee members to lead personalized professional learning on skills related to information literacy, digital citizenship, and digital learning.
Our Wake Forward Initiative for 2021-22 will continue to build upon the Professional Learning structures put in place the last few years. During 2019-21 we focused specifically on promoting a common language of Computational Thinking through work with the Friday Institute and the Computer Science Department at NCSU (FI). We learned how to take coding and computational thinking (CT) beyond the walls of the media center or technology lab into every classroom in the building. Participants learned practical and user-friendly strategies for implementing coding and CT across the curriculum in all subject areas. For the 2021-22 school year, with assistance from a larger team of teacher leaders, all staff will continue to implement Snap! coding and create lessons to use with their students either in-person or remotely.
During 2022, to support the transition to Canvas, our Professional Learning Tech Thursdays will follow a curriculum within a Canvas Class in our Library. Our Digital Learning Coordinators, Wanda Hanley and Walt Tallman will prepare us for the move to Canvas as our Learning Management System beginning the fall of 2022.
Email Wanda, Walt, Elise, or Christine if you need anything and read more about our move here.
As the Digital Sciences Team and MTAC develop strategies to prepare teachers for the best use of technology in the classroom, we're seeing that WCPSS will be moving to Canvas soon!
Tech Thursdays have worked in the past for our Infusing Computing projects. Having the staff meet with their department team during their planning time seems to work for positive learning!
Using Tech Thursdays this year for our move to Canvas!
The Digital Sciences Team/Media Technology Advisory Committee will continue to promote personalized learning during “Tech Thursdays” throughout the school year. These trainings will team teachers with our Digital Learning Coordinators, Walt and Wanda to assist them in this journey.
These DLCs will also be open to one on one help as needed.
Faculty will feel confident creating and implementing their lessons in Canvas in preparation for the 2022-2023 school year!
