If your Chromebook will not power on, you may have a bad charger. Bad chargers may be exchanged for good chargers. Bring your bad charger to the librarian to make the exchange. If your Chromebook does not keep its charge, you likely need to complete a device incident form. You can also try a friend or sibling's charger to see if the problem is the charger.
If you have a broken or lost charger, you will need to replace the charger at your expense. If you are unable to bear the cost at this time, please contact our librarian. Our students use Lenovo 3e Chromebooks The "generation" of the 3e device will vary (2nd, 3rd, 4th...), but any “usb type c 45w" "USB-c 45w" charger made for Lenovo should be compatible.
If your Chromebook is frozen, hold the power down button for 30 seconds until the power button light turns off. This is a hard shut down and is not good for your device. However, sometimes it is necessary to clear issues and restart your device.
If you are having jumping or glitchy mouse/touch screen issues, inspect for small cracks in the screen. Sometimes they are hard to see, but a small crack will cause clicking to be abnormal and could be a reason to request a replacement.
If your device has a virus, it will need a Chromebook Wipe. This will reboot the operating system. The wipe is also helpful in fixing glitching issues with the keys and screen. Come to the media center if you need your Chromebook wiped (operating system rebooted).
Chromebooks with missing keys, hardware issues, cracked screens, or water damage will be processed for disposal, and (if you are eligible) you will receive a substitute device. Use this link to create a device incident report. After completing the device incident report, bring your damaged device to the library. The librarian will submit the device to Tech Services.
The media center has Chromebook Loaners for students whose devices are being repaired.
