Parkside's science special will serve as an opportunity for students to receive supplementary science time that builds on what they're learning in their classrooms! We will spend our time doing hands on learning, solving problems, interacting with the natural world around our school, learning about people and events in science, thinking critically about the world, and gaining a deeper understanding of major world issues including climate change, climate justice, and equity in science!
My name is Megan Madlon, and this is my 12th year as a Wake County teacher! My first 7 years were spent in 3rd grade, and I loved every minute of it!
Science education is my passion, though, so I am thrilled to be able to offer this science special! Science itself is expansive, as it also encompasses literacy skills, math, history, social-emotional health, and more. I want to help students see all that is connected through science, and to find joy in understanding the world around them. Their generation will be essential in working to help our environment.
Outside of my job, I have a number of rescue animals that I take care of, many of whom will live at or visit Parkside (their pictures and info can be found on the Parkside Animals tab)! I love animals, being outside, and learning about our planet and universe! I love read, eat tasty food, and listen to music, as well! My husband is a nurse at UNC, and we have a super fun toddler, and a sweet old dog!
