Hello Parkside Sandpipers. I am excited to have the opportunity to serve as your music teacher. My favorite thing to do as a teacher is to instill in students, confidence, and support their natural ability to be creative and engaged in learning. Music is my main thing as you must have realized by now. Growing up in Queens, New York, I started playing piano when I was 7 years old and learned the language of music through playing violin in middle school, and singing in chorus and also playing flute in High School. I benefited from attending a Music and Arts High School where I was also able to take an advanced theory class, which prepared me to complete advanced studies in music and education at Northwestern University.
I have had many exciting adventures in music, including playing in a band with my sister, who is an amazing lead singer. We had the opportunity to perform at the world famous, Apollo Theater in New York City. We won first place in their talent competition!
I have taught in Wake County Public Schools for 22 years, as an elementary music teacher and also as a middle school chorus director. When you are in my music class, you should expect the unexpected... Boomwhackers, keyboard, ukuleles, guitars, recorders, drums, agogo bells, tambourines, shakeres, microphones, beat box, xylophones...oh my! Did I mention we also sing a lot, play games, use digital technology and may even learn to waltz in 3/4 time? Never fear, our Savvy Sandpipers will learn the language of music through communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.
My career highlights include, writing for the North Carolina Symphony Education Program and delivering the keynote address for the NC Symphony Women of Note event. My students have performed at Memorial Auditorium at the Pieces of Gold Performing Arts Extravaganza and the Governor's Education Ball. The Parkside Chorus performed in the Raleigh Fine Arts Choral Celebrations consecutive years 2021-2026 at Meymandi Hall. I was featured with 4th grade students on UNC-TV, Carolina Now - Behind the Scenes at the NC Symphony and Spectrum TV News for Arts in Education week 2025
My accomplishments in education include a Certification in Non-Profit Management from Duke University. Music and Social Justice Certificate from Yale University School of Music.
I previously served on the Board of Directors for the Raleigh Youth Choir.
