In 2021, in collaboration with our school's Digital Learning Coordinators, Mary Clay Vick and Laura Barnes, MTAC members were introduced to the North Carolina Digital Learning Standards for Students (NCDLS) and began to unpack each standard- Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator.
Committee members then engaged in a virtual gallery walk to explore each other's sketchnote work and learn more about the NC Digital Learning Standards. Now that we are familiar with the standards, we are currently in the process of prioritizing them and creating a school wide digital learning plan.
The above spreadsheet organizes each standard, the 4 parts to each standard, and sample grade band indicator standards for Kindergarten through 5th grade. MTAC members chose to start unpacking the standards by focusing solely on Digital Citizenship and Creative Communicator for the 2021/22 school year. In Fall of 2021 members collaborated with their grade level colleagues to brainstorm "I can..." statements for each indicator of the Digital Citizenship standard. Members also attached Common Sense Media lessons where appropriate. In Spring 2022 members brainstormed "I can..." statements for Creative Communicator.
