MUSIC NEWS
March is Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®)! The positive impact on music in the lives of our students lasts a lifetime. Therefore, the education and cultivation of music in our youngest members of society, our students, is paramount. We are lucky at Oakview to have an #owlsome administration, staff, and community that supports our music program!
Our March song is “I Love the Mountains”, a campfire folk song that has been sung in America for 100 years. Classes are enjoying singing the song in a 3-part canon. Our composer is Florence Price, an American musician who lived from 1887 to 1953. She was the first African American woman to achieve international recognition as a composer!
As part of our MIOSM® celebration, students are participating in Quaver’s Music Madness, a bracket style tournament in which students listen and evaluate songs and vote on their favorites. This year’s theme is the Four Corners of the World. Classes are listening to songs and voting in class and through our music canvas site. The winning song will be announced on April 13th.
Congrats to our 5th Grade Honors Chorus Singers for an amazing job in their Concert last month! They perform with the Honors Chorus at Pieces of Gold on March 4th. OWL CHORUS: Reminder, there is NO REHEARSAL on March 18th!
Thank you for your support of music at Oakview!
Musically,
Ms. Huddle
