The North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) is a statewide agreement governing the transfer of credits between NC community colleges and NC public universities and has as its objective the smooth transfer of students.

The North Carolina High School to Community College Articulation Agreement is an agreement between the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina Community College System.
The North Carolina High School to Community College Articulation Agreement provides a seamless process that joins secondary and postsecondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs of study.
This statewide articulation agreement is comprised of high school CTE courses that match the knowledge and skills taught in similar community college courses. The articulation agreement ensures that if a student is proficient in his/her high school course, the student can receive college credit for that course at any North Carolina community college. This streamlines the student's educational pathway by eliminating the need to take multiple courses with the same learning outcomes.
In addition to the North Carolina High School to Community College Articulation Agreement, local articulation agreements are developed to build strong partnerships between high schools and individual community colleges. These local articulation agreements respond to new and emerging industries, provide for programs unique to the region, and add additional articulated courses and pathway alignments at the local level that are not included in the state agreement. WCPSS and WTCC have developed the Local Articulated Credit Agreement Between WCPSS and WTCC.
The North Carolina Office of Career and Technical Education recognizes that honors-level courses are an integral component of a differentiated Career and Technical Education (CTE) program of study and provide an array of opportunities for all students based on their aptitudes, achievement, and interests. CTE inherently honors courses have a more rigorous and challenging curriculum than Standard level courses. Courses designated as inherently honors are written at the advanced level and do not have Standard level course codes. CTE inherently honors courses are exempt from the honors portfolio review process.
CTE inherently honors courses may have aligned NC Tier 2 or Tier 3 industry credentials, have increased depth and scope of work in the course blueprint, have an integrated career preparatory work-based learning experience, or be a course on the High School to Community College Articulation Agreement.
To support high school students who are earning college credit while in high school through Career and College Promise (CCP), NCDPI has determined dual credit allowances for courses included in the Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) of the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA). UGETC courses will transfer for equivalency credit from NC Community Colleges to UNC Institutions. Students who enroll in and pass these college courses will also receive high school course credit based on the chart below. Eligible high school students may enroll in these courses year-round through CCP.
