My name is Ms. Pier, and I am thrilled to be your Art teacher at Mills Park Middle School. Art has always been my passion, and I’m excited to share that enthusiasm with you this year. In our class, we’ll explore various artistic techniques, styles, and mediums, from traditional drawing and painting to ceramics.
My goal is to help every student discover their unique creative voice and to encourage them to express themselves in ways that are meaningful and impactful. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just beginning your journey, this class is a place where imagination and creativity thrive. We will study famous artists, learn about well-known works of art, and practice writing artist statements that explain ideas and creative choices. Students will also explore different careers in art and design.
Art is more than creating something visually appealing; it helps build problem-solving skills, confidence, and perseverance. Through art, students learn how to take creative risks, think critically, and reflect on their work. Art also supports emotional expression, stress relief, and collaboration, helping students develop empathy and communication skills. These skills are valuable not only in school, but throughout life.
Outside of the classroom, I love visiting art museums, working on my own art projects, and spending time with my family. I can’t wait to see the incredible art we’ll create together this year and watch your skills grow.
Let’s make this year a colorful and inspiring one!
