Our State - Social Studies

The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future.

- Theodore Roosevelt

This year in social studies students will be learning all about the state they live in. We will explore the history, government, economics, culture and people of North Carolina. In class, we will use magazines, newspapers, textbooks, and videos to investigate and gather information about our state.

Students will use all of the information that we learn in class to create an electronic scrapbook to demonstrate their understanding. They will have the entire school year to assemble this scrapbook. The scrapbook will be housed in each child's individual, Wake County Google drive. Students will work on these during class throughout the year, however, they may also choose to work on them at home if they would like. I will check their progress, post comments and give them a grade for the scrapbook each quarter.

Since the scrapbook will be electronic and can be accessed at home, you may check in at any time throughout the year to see how your child is progressing. You will also be able to see any comments or suggestions I make on your child's work as well as the grade for each quarter.

Directions for the project will be posted in my Google classroom and will also be posted below on this page as soon as the school year begins.
