Students will be working hard to demonstrate excellent character traits so that they can be like CARY the Chameleon, our school mascot. CARY's motto is :

Be Like CARY - Collaborative Achieving Respectful Year Round Leaders!

Students will work together to earn squares on our class CARY card whenever we are in the hallways, specials, or cafeteria. When we fill our class CARY card, students will vote on a special reward as a positive incentive to work together towards our goals. Our quarterly goal is to fill 5 CARY cards (each card has 20 squares) so that we can earn a class chameleon on the CARY tree in the lobby.

Students will work independently to earn squares on their own individual CARY cards. They can earn squares for excellent work and study habits, for kind and thoughtful treatment of their peers, and for helping out in our classroom community. Each individual CARY card has 10 squares and students may choose to turn in one card at a time for smaller rewards or save up their cards for slightly bigger rewards. The rewards are mostly intrinsic such as choosing a new seat for the day, wearing a hat to school, using a fancy pencil from the teacher, drawing a picture on the class whiteboard, sitting at the teacher's desk for the day, lunch in the classroom, etc.

Once the school year begins, check in on our progress with our CARY card goals. I will post a comment when we fill our class card and let you know what the students choose as their reward.
