Students at Swift Creek have been introduced to the Zones of Regulation and are familiar with what each of the zones represent. In the photo above, you can see there are four zones. Students can identify the zone they are in and are familiar with some strategies to return to the Green Zone if they find themselves in a different zone.
The goal of using the zones is to promote self-regulation and identifying emotions throughout a typical day. Asking students what zone they are in and what tools they can use to return to the Green Zone is a great way to encourage self-regulation! As teachers, we often model our zones as well. For example, I may tell my students, "I feel in the yellow zone because I'm excited- I know recess is soon and it looks wonderful outside! It's time for math though, so I'm going to use rainbow breathing to get myself back to the Green Zone".
