My name is Dana Walters and I am your child’s AIG teacher. I have lived in several states (including Arizona, Colorado, and Maryland) but North Carolina is my home. I have lived in the Cary/Raleigh area for over 20 years. I attended North Carolina State University where I received my degree in psychology (I am also a former NC State cheerleader ~ GO PACK!). I received my teaching license from Meredith College and my AIG licensure from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. Tar Heel fans don’t fret, my husband was a former UNC cheerleader, is the current UNC Varsity Cheer Coach and he is true blue – born and bred. Yes, this does set up some interesting weekends around our home during football and basketball season! I love to travel and spend time with my family.
My husband and I have three children. Our first born is Mason and he is now 19 years old and and is a sophomore at the University of Alabama! ROLL TIDE! Kendall is our 16 year old "spirited" teen entering her junior year of high school, is into cheering and competitive dance, and is driving😵. Our 3rd is Rhett who is 8 years old. He keeps us all laughing and on our toes! He will be in 3rd grade this year! We also have a French Bulldog named Greta who we are convinced is part pig! I love all things Frenchie :)
The upcoming school year will be full of learning, challenge, and fun. Our AIG curriculum is fabulous and includes Math and Language Arts with an emphasis on integrating Writing, Social Studies, Science, and Technology. Math instruction, as well as enrichment and extension, will follow the Common Core curriculum at an appropriate pace and rigor for your high level learner. The AIG program will support Highcroft's Balanced Literacy approach to Language Arts involving reading lessons from the Common Core that lend themselves to whole group discussion, individual reading, novel studies and socratic seminars, vocabulary/spelling, and writing.
As you can tell, we have a very full year ahead of us. My goal is to not only promote learning, but to foster a positive and supportive classroom environment where each child is valued and appreciated for their unique talents and gifts. Communication is key to a successful partnership between home and classroom ~ please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions. I look forward to a fun year of learning and discovery with your children!
