Second Quarter
Reading: This week the students will choose a frog to become an expert on. They will read informational texts to collect research about their frogs. We will also be studying holidays celebrated around the world with research and fun, interactive activities.
Writing: They will be writing an informational paragraph on the freaky adaptations of a frog they have become an expert on. Then the students will use their information to create a freaky frog trading card.
Math: This week's multiplication focus is on solving multi-step story problems using multiplication and division. We will also learn to multiply one-digit factors by facts of 10. Due to the weather, we will continue this unit in third quarter.
Social Studies: Our economics focus this week is on needs & wants, supply & demand, and entrepreneurship.

Writing: We will finish studying various sentence types with a fun, holiday writing activity. Then they will begin to write an informational paragraph on some of the freaky adaptations of frogs.
Math: This week's multiplication focus is on solving multi-step story problems using multiplication and division. We will also learn to multiply one-digit factors by facts of 10.
Social Studies: Our economics unit got pushed back a bit. This week we will begin to study economics by learning what is economics, goods & services, producers & consumers, needs & wants, and supply & demand.

Reading: This week's focus is on collecting research about frog adaptations to write informational paragraphs. The students will have an assessment on Friday.
Writing: We will be writing informative paragraphs to teach others about frog adaptations. We will also be studying simple, compound and complex sentence types.
Math: This week's multiplication focus is on fact fluency with 9s, 0s, and 1s! We will also begin solving multi-step word problems using multiplication and mixed operations.
Science and Social Studies: We will continue to study force and motion with a focus on speed. The student will take their assessment on Wednesday. Then we will begin a social studies unit on economics. This week's focus will be on learning what economics is and goods & services.

Reading: Due to the short week, this week will be a review week while we focus on asking and answering questions in both fiction and nonfiction texts with a Thanksgiving theme.
Writing: Writing will be integrated into our reading lessons.
Math: This week's multiplication focus is on fact fluency with 8s!
Social Studies: We will take a break from our force and motion unit this week, to study the Tuscarora Native American people.

Students will be reading excerpts from an informational text on frogs, answering questions, and collecting research that will be used for various writing assignments. Their next EL assessment will be on Friday.
Writing: This week we will be studying verbs with a focus on irregular spellings.
Math: This week's multiplication focus is on solving story problems with facts of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 as well as fact fluency of 7s.
Science: We are studying force and motion with a focus on how the forces of push, pull and friction cause motion to start and stop.

Reading: This week moves us into a study of the freaky adaptations of frogs through informational text. Students will reading excerpts from an informational text on frogs, answering questions, and collecting research that will be used for various writing assignments.
Writing: Students will be completing their frog pourquoi tales, editing/revising them and then sharing them in a Frog Festival on Thursday afternoon.
Math: This week's multiplication focus is on fluency with the facts of 4, 3, and 6.
Science: Monday we will review the three states of matter and Wednesday the students will take their assessment. On Thursday we will begin a second science unit on force and motion.

Reading: We will continue to study the freaky adaptations of frogs through pouquoi tales and other fictional texts. The students will have their first EL assessment of the quarter on Wednesday.
Writing: Students will be showing what they have learned in reading, by writing their own pourquoi tales. We will be publishing these into a class book that will be available for purchase! More details coming soon.
Math: Our addition and subtraction test will be on Monday. Wednesday we begin a unit on multiplication fluency that will take us through the end of the quarter.
Science: We will continue to study the three states of matter through various experiments this week and a final assessment on Friday.

Reading: This week's freaky frog focus is learning about frog adaptations through pourquoi tales (why stories). These are fictional stories that explain why something is the way it is in nature. We will be analyzing story structure and asking and answering questions from the stories.
Writing: This week is a grammar focus on adverbs; specifically comparative and superlative adverbs.
Math: We are continuing our math unit on addition and subtraction with three-digit numbers. This week's focus will be on solving story problems.

Reading: We are beginning a new EL module all about frogs! We will be studying frogs and their freaky adaptations. This week kicks us off as we study the freaky adaptations of frogs through poetry.
Writing: This week is a grammar focus on adjectives; specifically comparative and superlative adjectives.
Math: We are continuing our math unit on addition and subtraction with three-digit numbers. This week's focus will be on estimation to check for the reasonableness of our answers.
Science: We are beginning a new science unit on states of matter. This week's focus will be on discovering what matter is and identifying the three states of matter.
