Course Description/Standards/Pacing
The instructional goal of this course is that students can demonstrate mastery of the content standards. This mastery will be measured in both formative and summative assessments. Teachers will guide students toward mastery through direct instruction and guided practice. Further, students will complete the PBM (Performance Based Measurement) as required by the State of North Carolina to demonstrate proficiency. THERE IS NO EXAM FOR THIS COURSE!!! More details can be found on the Wake County Website. If you have any questions, please contact me for further information.
This course outlines and demonstrates the fundamentals of marketing. It is designed to introduce students to marketing while understanding its global presence and influence on the world. We will dissect the 4 P’s and go deeper into understanding how each works in the marketing mix. This is the beginning course for the pathway into Marketing Management. Upon completion of this course, students can take Marketing II in the future if they would like to continue the pathway.
The course entails 5 units in total
Understand marketing, marketing functions, marketing mix components (4 P’s), marketing strategies and tactics, target market identification, segmentation, the need for marketing research and data, and career opportunities in marketing.
Understand product/service management, branding, product life cycles, new product development, marketing of services, product positioning and the technological, legal, and ethical components of product/service management.
Understand promotion and types of promotion including selling and the technological, legal, and ethical components of promotion.
Understand pricing and factors affecting pricing decisions including technological, ethical and legal considerations.
Understand channels of distribution and supply chain management and the technological, legal, and ethical components of channel management.
Credential
This course also offers a credential if the student passes the exam. A credential is a real certifiacation that can be used for employment in the workforce! Students will complete a series of modules (video's and questions) throughout the year. Once completed, they will take a 100 question exam. If they pass, they will earn the credential and can use it on their resume, interviews, or college applications. The credential for this course is Adobe Content Creation and Marketing
CTSO- A CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organization) is a club offered by the county/school. The associated CTSO for this course is DECA. Enloe proudly offers a well recognized DECA chapter. This CTSO allows students to compete in district, state and national events, complete chapter campaigns, network with other students, and demonstrate essential employability skills such as leadership, role play and public speaking, critical thinking, team work, communication, organization, and adaptability. For more information about Enloe DECA, please visit https://enloehsdeca.weebly.com/ or reach out to me. I am the DECA advisor!!
Enloe Attendance Plan/Policy
It is our expectation that students will attend class sessions during the designated times indicated on the remote learning schedule. When this is not possible, the student should review the work posted online and reach out to the teacher(s) to clarify instruction and activities. All work in this course is in CANVAS and/or online. This means students should have access and the ability to complete work while away from school.
I DO NOT have access to change your child's attendance after it has been taken for the day. Once it is taken in Infinite Campus, only Ms. Jiles at the front office can make that change. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your child listens to his/her name being called at the beginning of class. I will call the name TWICE and look for a hand, face, or voice. If I do not receive confirmation of any of those, I will say “Going once, going, twice, done”. Sleeping, listening to music, not paying attention are all not satisfactory behaviors while taking attendance.
If a student shows up late for class, a PINK tardy slip from a tardy station or front office slip MUST BE accompanied with that student or they will not be admitted into the class. Tardy’s will also be recorded in Infinite Campus.
The exam exemption policy DOES NOT apply to my class! All CTE students must take a state exam, complete a PBM, or earn a certification. For those courses that due allow attendance and exam exemption, this year only 3 DAYS can be missed (excused or unexcused) in total to be exempt.
Grading Practices/Late Work
Enloe adopted a new grading and late work policy two years ago that ALL staff must abide by. All work is expected to be completed by the date it is assigned. However, in the event it is not, the student has 2 CLASS PERIOD to still turn in work. For example, if an assignment is due on Monday, that student has until Friday to still turn it in with a minimum grade of 50, which is also referred to as the NAA date (Not Accepted After). After that, I have the discretion on how or if I still want to accept work.
NOTE: classwork is done daily and the NAA does not apply to these assignments. Not doing them during class will result in a “0” in Infinite Campus!
Grading Categories and Scale: Major grades 60% (tests and projects), Minor 40%
In terms of homework, there is no homework for this course. All minor assignments are completed daily in class (classwork). HOWEVER, if your student isn’t engaged or decides to not complete the work that day, then they will have to get it completed outside of class. In class assignments are EXEMPT from the NAA rule, which means students need to come ready to learn. We will work on MAJOR assignments in class but they will be required to work on it outside of class as well.
Phone Policy
It is Wake County Policy that all phones be put away during class. If you are caught with your phone out, you will be asked to put it in the cubby holder on the wall. If a student continues to disregard the policy, then they will be referred to administration. If we can get our work done during class, I have no problem with students having them out. But, I will let them know when that is!
Bathroom
Only two people are allowed to go to the bathroom at a time (1 male, 1 female). Students must take a clipboard and have it signed out by me. If a student is gone longer than 10-15 mins, I will ask where they have been. Wondering the halls is an automatic write up. Phones may NOT be taken to the bathroom as well. If a student returns and does not have the clip board, they will also be written up.
Academic Recovery: Students who do not earn a passing grade in a quarter will be provided the opportunity to improve to at least a passing grade of 60 with the completion of work determined by the teacher and as described on a contract. This usually entails completing ALL MAJOR assignments for that quarter. They will have until the end of the following quarter to complete the academic recovery. If it is not completed, the grade will remain as it was.
