FAQ

My student is a 6th grader. Do they need to retest in order to qualify for AIG in middle school?

No. A student's AIG status stays with them throughout their academic career in WCPSS. They do not need to retest in middle school.

Will my child be placed in AIG classes?

If your child was identified as AIG Reading in elementary school, they will be clustered with other AIG students in an AIG ELA class. While the class will not be labeled as AIG ELA, the pacing, method of delivery, and the coursework will be modified to create appropriate challenges for the AIG child.

If your child was identified as AIG in Math in elementary school, they will be served by being placed in a leveled Math class following their Math sequence. Again, there are no sections of AIG Math, but the curriculum is structured to present appropriate challenges.

If you have questions about your child's ELA or Math placement, please email Mrs. Barber (kbarber@wcpss.net).

When does the AIG class begin?

Unlike elementary school, where students were pulled to meet weekly with the AIG teacher, middle school does not use the AIG pull-out model. Our methods of service delivery include: supporting teachers through curriculum development and differentiation and small group support.

How do I nominate my child for AIG?

If you would like to nominate your child for AIG, please email Mrs. Kibler at mkibler@wcpss.net with your request. In addition, please review the AIG nomination process here
