About Ms. Rowell
Hi! My name is Katie Rowell and I am so happy to be a Martin Mustang. This is my 7th year as a School Counselor and 5th year at Martin. I love that I get to follow my students through their middle school journey. My favorite part of being a School Counselor are the relationships that I get to build with my students and their families.
I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology from NC State. Go Wolfpack!! Right after graduation I went to grad school at UNC- Chapel Hill. After graduating, I spent a couple years in Charlotte as an elementary school counselor and then took a year to move abroad to teach in Spain. NC called me back and I landed back here in Raleigh. In my free time I love traveling to new places and meeting new people. Other hobbies of mine are finding fun coffee shops, reading, and being outside doing anything active. Yoga and hiking are a couple of favorites!

Social Emotional Learning
Martin uses Second Step curriculum to facilitate SEL in all grade levels. Students receive two lessons a month. Counselors also teach guidance lessons on Signs of Suicide, Class registration, coping skills and more!
Small Groups
Ms. Rowell will be doing small groups during lunch throughout the year based on student needs. Please reach out if you would like for your child to be involved in a small group.
Individual Counseling
Counselors are available to meet with students individually to address specific needs regarding social/emotional support and academic assistance.
