When we celebrate other languages, we celebrate other cultures. Language learning makes us more aware of the world around us. It is bigger than our backyards. We embrace diversity and make connections between our Latina cultures and our very own. The respective cultures our students bring to the table, especially in our diverse demographic of the Triangle, are strengths that add to the learning experience here at Mills Park.
Here are some ways we can celebrate diversity in Ms. Barbee's classroom:
Become better, more empathetic listeners.
Appreciate each other's differences and similarities.
Become more empathetic to socioeconomic situations of marginalized peoples around the world and at home.
Try new things, new foods, new experiences. Step into cultures.
Defend those who are abused, ignored or discriminated.
