BIO - SEÑORA BARBEE

Meet your Teacher

My name is Ms. Barbee Tyus (Señora Barbee) and I'm so fortunate to have the greatest task in the world - the task of educating, molding and inspiring our students.  I have a BA in Spanish from Tennessee State University and I studied abroad at the University of Murcia in Spain. I'm a transplant to the Triangle from Playas, Mexico where I consulted for a major hospital after a long corporate career in language services and accounting. I was born and raised in Music City - Nashville, TN. I love my family deeply. I'm a linguaphile - languages are literally music to my ears. I love traveling and writing.  To keep my sanity,  I listen to audiobooks and 70s R&B and I love to play Asphalt 8.

My travels and experience with working with people from all over the world have given me so much perspective over the years. I believe that our greatest value is each other and every child can learn. Learning and using other languages opens the doors to innumerable opportunities, no matter the age of the learner or the language.  My charge as an educator is to give students a safe space to develop into the people they want to be, as well-rounded, empathetic, and impactful global citizens of the world.
