Attending school every day is a key component of a student's academic success and Ligon is committed to the educational success of all our students. It is important for students to attend school daily and on time to receive the maximum benefit from instruction. Our school day starts promptly at 7:35 am. Please make sure your child arrives to school with plenty of time to eat breakfast, go to their locker, and be in their seat ready to learn by the time the bell rings at 7:35 am. We want to partner with our students and families to remove barrier that prevent students from attending school. Please contact your grade level counselor or school social worker with any questions or concerns.
Students arriving after the 7:35 am bell must stop by Student Services for a tardy pass.
It's the law! As parents, it is your responsibility to ensure your child attends school! NC attendance law 115C-378 requires all students enrolled in school to be in attendance. At 10 unexcused absences, parents can be held legally responsible for student non-attendance. Please see your school social worker for information on the NC Attendance Law and WCPSS Policy.
You will need to provide a note, email, or doctor's note within two days of your child's return to school or the absence will be recorded as unexcused. Your principal or teachers will notify you if there are three or more unexcused absences and will work with you and your child if there is a concern that absences are becoming excessive.
Reasons for excused absences include:
Illness or injury
A death in the family
Health care appointments
Court appearances
Religious observance
Natural disasters
Educational opportunities (parents must complete the Request for Excused Absence for Educational Reasons Form Solicitud en Español in advance.)
