Library Media Services EOY Report
Along with the DLMI, which is the state report, we ask that you complete a WCPSS Library Media Services EOY Report. This report gives us additional information that is pertinent to library operations specifically. We do want data that can inform our decisions regarding professional learning, support from Library Media Services, advocacy, and other areas. The goal is to capture the "state of our school libraries."
We also provide the outcomes of the collected data with you so that you can put your school in context of others across the district. Look for this year's information to be released at the start of the 2023-24 school year.

Exciting opportunity!: Environmental Education pilot cohort
Have you been a WCPSS librarian for a few (or a lot of) years? Do you feel grounded in the understanding of your position in your school and looking for personal and professional growth? Are you interested in investing in the future of the school family you are currently working with? Does the idea of creating meaningful curriculum connections to our world around us excite you?
If you answered YES! to these questions, you may be interested in an opportunity to participate in a unique and exciting pilot program that would result in:
You becoming a Certified Environmental Educator
Obtaining valuable resources for your professional development collection (including materials for your school!)
Training to help you confidently present environmental literacy PD to your school staff
A 2 year commitment of being supported in a small cohort with the potential to present at a state level conference
Understanding ways that environmental education can be used to address and overcome social and educational inequalities
Here is a short video further explaining this opportunity for five WCPSS school librarians (K-12): https://bit.ly/EnvironmentalLitLibrary
If you are interested in becoming a possible participant, please fill out this form and we will contact you with dates for information sessions: https://bit.ly/EnvironmentalLitLibraryFORM
Thank you!

Reminder: Policy for Donated Materials
Any books offered as donations to school libraries are subject to the same selection criteria as materials that are purchased. Donated materials should be vetted before adding them to your collection. If donated materials do not meet your selection criteria, they can be repurposed or discarded.
Destiny Tip of the Month
Destiny v20 launched on Friday April 20. There were a few updates to Destiny Library Manager and Destiny Discover.
In Library Manager an enhancement was made to the Current Checkouts/Fines Report. You will now have the ability to include Patrons of other sites that have your library materials and library materials that your patrons have that are owed to other sites in the district. Follett has separated out Library materials and resource items, this will allow you to add these boxes without adding computers, ipads, or other special education resources to your notices.
Destiny Discover has a new search bar placement on the center of the screen. There are more customizable features including a customizable carousel and a status indicator for MackinVIA titles.
Tip Sheets for Student Overdues in Destiny Discover and Globally Deleting Fines
New tip sheets have been added to the Library Media Services site for helping students access their overdue books and fines in Discover and Globally Deleting Student Fines.
We recommend teaching students how to access their account information to reduce the number of reports for checked out materials. The tip sheet is in the Destiny Library Manager tile, under the Destiny Discover heading.
The Globally Deleting Student Fines tip sheet is in the Destiny Library Manager tile, under Other Helpful Items.
Other End-of-year reminders
Library Inventory
As a reminder, Library Media Services does not mandate a year-end inventory. You may choose to conduct an inventory at any time during the school year. Regular circulation can continue while running an inventory. In addition, it is not necessary to inventory the entire collection all at once. You can choose to only inventory a subset of the collection. It's most important to conduct an inventory when you think there are a significant number of materials that are unaccounted for (the
Destiny catalog shows them as "Available" but they cannot be found on the shelf), or a significant number of students report that they have returned materials that still show up as checked out on their account.
The easiest way to delete Lost copies from your collection is through finalizing an inventory.
You can find directions for completing a library inventory on the Destiny page on the Library Media Services site.
Collecting Library Books
You should consult with your administration and your MTAC to determine what policy is best for your school.
Some schools choose to allow students to circulate books over the summer. There is no policy that states you must collect all books for the end of the year.
If your admin and MTAC determine it is best to collect all books for the end of year, Library Media Services recommends stopping circulation no sooner than 2 weeks before the last day of school, with all books due 1 week before the last day of school. This will give you an additional week to round up books from stragglers.
