July checklist

Information overload? These are the most important DLL things to know to stay on track:

Happy New Year!

If retail entities can market events like Christmas in July, then I think perhaps the new school year should start with confetti and fireworks rather than meetings–a true celebration of possibilities and hope. Give me an inflatable obstacle course and a carnival-like atmosphere that reminds us that we enjoy working with kids because we, ourselves, are kids at heart.

So, while there are still meetings to be had, I encourage you to nurture and celebrate the moments of levity, fun, optimism.  At the start of this year, take a moment to pause, write down goals for 2024-2025, and let the Library Media Services team know how we can support you in achieving your goals. Susan, Kristel, Stacy, and I are thrilled to work alongside you.  - Kendra

School Library Media Coordinator Contact List

The 2024-2025 School Library Media Coordinator Contact List can be found on the home page of the Library Media Services site under Quick Links. This directory contains the names of the library staff at each school, email and phone numbers for library staff, and the school’s 3-digit code. Please check that the information listed for your school site is accurate and email Stacy Symes (ssymes@wcpss.net) if any changes need to be made.

Email Guidelines

As we begin another school year, here are a few reminders about expectations for use of WCPSS communication systems.

B. Rules for Use of Technological Resources

1. School system technological resources are provided for school-related purposes only. Acceptable uses of such technological resources are limited to responsible, efficient, and legal activities that support learning and teaching.  Use of school system technological resources for commercial gain or profit is prohibited.  Because some incidental and occasional personal use by employees is inevitable, the Board permits infrequent and brief personal use by employees so long as it occurs on personal time, does not interfere with school system business, and is not otherwise prohibited by Board policy or procedure.  The use of personal taglines or signature additions are not allowed on WCPSS email or other accounts.

2. Using Wake County Public School Systems computers, networks, or other technology resources to endorse or oppose referendum, election, or particular candidate for office, including but not limited to advocacy in support of or against school bond referenda or candidates for the Board of Education is prohibited.

WCPSS Library Standards

All of our individual school libraries are part of a larger WCPSS ecosystem. To maintain consistency for the students, staff, and families that access our libraries and collections, we have district standards that schools are expected to follow. If you have questions, please contact Kendra Allen (919-694-0273 or kallen2@wcpss.net

These standards can also be found on the Library Media Services website under Best Practices.

Problem with Destiny?

If you’re experiencing an issue with Destiny, contact Stacy Symes (919-694-0279 or ssymes@wcpss.net) instead of calling Follett directly. WCPSS has specialized customer and technical support with Follett, which we can activate without going through generic tech support.

Title/Copy Data Report in Destiny

The Title/Copy Data report in Destiny is a great report to run if you need to analyze your collection by call number. This report will give you barcode number, call number, title, publication date, date acquired, and very detailed circulation information. The report can be viewed in excel, and the data can be filtered and sorted to meet your specific needs.
