Retest Policy
Students with less than a 80 on a test assessment will be allowed to retake the test, provided they have received extra help or completed tutorials.
Students must attend remediation before any retesting (not eligible for finals or midterms) and you must fill out a Request to Retake Form--the form will be posted on Google Classroom.
Students can not retest on quizzes—this means you must study ahead of time and be prepared the first time.
Grading Scale: 10 point scale →
90-100 = A 80-89 = B 70-79 = C 60-69 = D 59 and below = F
Tests (40%):
Tests are given at the end of units, and assess the 4 major proficiency skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language. You will have plenty of opportunities to practice each of these skills throughout class, by completing all of our various activities.
Quizzes (25%):
These occur throughout a unit (usually 2 per unit) & assess acquisition & understanding of vocabulary and structures within the context of the unit theme.
Classwork/Other Assignments (35%):
These are assignments that allow students to demonstrate their language acquisition in a creative & alternative way. These may be completed in class or at home and will incorporate elements of culture, writing, and/or speaking.
LATE WORK POLICY & ABSENCE POLICY:
All work is due on the due date! HOWEVER, if you were in school the day an assignment was assigned, and you are absent on the due date, it is due immediately upon your return. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the assignments and get any of the handouts. If you need to schedule a make-up test/quiz, it is up to you to meet with me either before school or after school to find out what work you missed. You have as many days as you were absent to make up an assignment. Students will earn a minimum of 70% of the grade they would have received if turned in on time. Work that is submitted on time and meets the minimal completion requirements will receive a score no less than 50%. Teachers do not have to accept late work after one week prior to the beginning of the exam period for the grading term.
Academic Courses
All students receiving academic credit for a course have the opportunity to recover grades through completing alternative assignments to demonstrate mastery, turning in missing work, and/or completing retests. Students will earn a minimum of 70% of the grade they would have received if turned in on time. Work that is submitted on time and meets the minimal completion requirements will receive a score no less than 50%. Teachers do not have to accept late work after one week prior to the beginning of the exam period for the grading term.

Academic Integrity
At Wakefield High School, academic integrity is extremely important. Please see the WHS Honor Code below:
The students of Wakefield High School are committed to being honest and responsible in the completion of academic materials and interactions with the school administration and community. Cheating, stealing, plagiarism (passing off another's work, words, or ideas as one's own), and lying (including willful distortion or misrepresentation) are considered violations of the Honor Code. Through a joint fulfillment of this code, students and faculty will achieve their fullest potential in academic excellence and character.
*Students are expected to do their own work 100% of the time. Cheating will not be tolerated. It is important to understand that using any form of online translation tool, app, or native speaker is considered cheating. It is also cheating when you copy your friend’s homework or information on a project, or if I catch you or your friends sharing each other's papers when it is not allowed. Students should expect academic and/or disciplinary consequences for cheating (including earning a 0).
Thank you in advance,
