All 3rd Graders will receive CogAt test preparation lessons with the AIG teachers during October. Each section of this aptitude test will be reviewed, along with practice test questions and testing strategies.
3rd Grade Screening Process
All third grade students will take the CogAT. Mrs. Goodman and Mrs. Cossa will be holding information sessions in order to explain how to interpret CogAT results.
Students who score in the 86th percentile on any of the batteries will be invited to take the Iowa. Once we receive the data from these two tests, the AIG teachers, classroom teachers, and administrators who make up the SBCGE (school based committee for gifted education) will decide which students will be referred for identification. Students may qualify for AIG using additional testing or via a portfolio that uses scores from standardized tests, work samples, and other assessment data to qualify a student. Referred students will either qualify for AIG services or will be placed in Talent Development. AIG services are in the areas of Reading and Math.
