The study of language and culture go hand-in-hand. Students research a holiday and present it in Japanese to their classmates. Explaining cultural traditions is challenging a this level, but students are provided with support and lots of examples.
In Japanese II students begin to study kanji. Each character can have multiple pronunciations and meanings, so studying them in the context of vocabulary is important.
Students will learn strategies to identify unfamiliar words they encounter and become comfortable reading text at the paragraph-short story level.
