Our MTAC members took the WCPSS School Library Program Assessment Survey to evaluate our media program. We scored lowest on cultivating community engagement and budget and resources. We determined these were the two areas we need to focus on the most based on the survey.
Over the course of the 18/19 academic year, an audit of our media program indicated that the DRMS media program needed to be more active in building community partnerships. Based on this audit, the media specialist will work to build/strengthen partnerships with the following: Colleges/Universities, Book stores, Guest speakers, Digital collaboration (Skype, Zoom etc.), Families and the Parent Teacher Association.
To achieve this outcome the school library media coordinator in conjunction with MTAC will:
strengthen connections with our local book store, Quail Ridge Books by hosting guest authors and providing books for sale to students.
strengthen our connection with the UNC-Chapel Hill through our collaboration with Professor Brian Sturm for our storytellers club.
continue working with PTA to host an annual book fair.
implement a DRMS Community Reads initiative for 6th graders and their parents who are interested.
build on our global connections as Mrs. Myers will continue the ePals project with Russia.
The overall expected outcome is that the DRMS media center will build stronger community relationships and enable our children to grow as students and citizens.
A strong school library program consistently invests in resources, both print and digital, that align with school and community goals to support student learning. Over the course of the 18/19 academic year, our media program will advocate for funds and apply for grants to improve our print resources. Budget and resources includes the following: Long-term, multi-year (living) planning both for collection management and technology; Consistent and predictable sources of funding; Adequate access to resources; Resources are current, diverse, inclusive, accessible (in a variety of formats), support both the curriculum and student interests; Support is provided for professional learning and collaboration to make maximum use of resources; Processes are in place for advocating for, reviewing, and evaluating resources; and Collections are weeded/ERDed regularly.
To achieve this outcome the school library media coordinator in conjunction with MTAC will:
attend professional development sessions about how to obtain grants.
apply for grants to provide resources for the learning commons.
implement proceeds from Active Learning Grant to transform the physical space.
The overall expected outcome is that the DRMS media center will grow its resources and become a more relevant space for students to thrive.
