Curriculum Assistance Structure
Each CA class is broken into 4 segments: warm-up, mini- lesson, supported/independent academic recovery, and closing. One day a week, students participate in peer to peer or group social skills lessons to practice social, functional and problem solving skills.
Warm Up Focus: Students develop executive functioning skills related to organization and emotional regulation.
Lesson Focus: Short lessons to build/assess student knowledge of social emotional, social, and executive functioning skills. Sometimes, a link can be made to support an objective taught in regular education classrooms.
Independent/Supported Work Block: Time given to students to work on assignments for focus lessons and to assess IEP goals. Students are provided 2 days per week to further develop their organizational skills to check grades and manage that school work.
Closing: Wrap to recall information for the day with a sprinkle of social skills building.
Curriculum Assistance is not utilized to complete missing work or homework unless a student has completed their required Curriculum Assistance assignments.
HOMEWORK & ASSESSMENT BOARDS
The Classwork-Homework & Assessment Boards are used as a support tool for families to assist with assigned homework each night. You may use it to verify assignments. Many teachers have their assignment listings and Canvas pages.
Please keep in mind, your student is in the process of developing independent skills for managing schoolwork and they are directed to write what makes sense to them in their agendas. This does not always translate to what parents expect, please use these links to aid your understanding of academic expectations.

Sometimes, elements of these units are linked to concepts within the regular education classroom. In addition to their daily classtime, students are observed in their core curriculum and elective classes to gauge their ability to apply these skills in their daily school experience. Information on observations is shared with students and their families to document progress toward goals and to set future goals.
