A strong school library program connects students to the world around them through research and inquiry, and by supporting a climate and culture of reading. These connections are made through collaborative lessons and programming that integrate information and technology skills with classroom curriculum, through the curation of relevant and reliable print and digital resources, and by empowering students in the 4C’s.
Equity & Cultural Competency
A strong school library program develops partnerships with the community (families, caregivers, businesses, non-profit organizations, local government, experts in fields related to curriculum topics, etc.). These partnerships exist to support student learning, mentorship, community engagement, and library advocacy.
Focus Areas for 2020-21
After reflecting upon current events and the Wake Forward focus areas from 2018-19, the MTAC Members decided to refocus on the areas of Curriculum & Instruction and Equity and Cultural Competency for the 2020-2021 school year. We chose these areas because they line up with our School Improvement Plan and the goals and ideals of the Library Media Technology program.
Expected Outcome #1
2020-2021 started out virtually and all teachers have made huge strides with utilizing technology in their instruction. We will work with Parkside Elementary to continue the development and implementation of a Research Continuum for grades K-5 and we will return to our work on Digital Portfolios. Kindergarten will continue to use Seesaw, but all other grades will begin using Google Sites this year. We are brainstorming the possibility of Student Led Conferences in the Spring.
Expected Outcome #2
Over the course of the 2020-2021 academic year, the MTAC team will look at the Media Collection for diverse characters and authors. Collaboratively we will determine the best way to purchase print materials moving forward.
