A strong school library program connects students to the world around them through research and inquiry, and by supporting a climate and culture of reading. These connections are made through collaborative lessons and programming that integrate information and technology skills with classroom curriculum, through the curation of relevant and reliable print and digital resources, and by empowering students in the 4C’s.
Family & Community Partnerships
A strong school library program develops partnerships with the community (families, caregivers, businesses, non-profit organizations, local government, experts in fields related to curriculum topics, etc.). These partnerships exist to support student learning, mentorship, community engagement, and library advocacy.
Focus Areas for 2019-20
After reflecting upon the Wake Forward assessment from last year, the MTAC Members decided to focus on the areas of Curriculum & Instruction and Family & Community Partnerships for the 2019-2020 school year. We chose these areas because they line up with our School Improvement Plan and the goals and ideals of the Library Media Technology program.
Expected Outcome #1
Over the course of the 2019-2020 academic year, the MTAC team will develop relevant and engaging curricula by identifying and integrating digital and print resources to complement both classroom and Specials instruction. Collaboratively, we will determine best purchases of print materials and best practices for instruction...thus increasing student awareness of the resources available to them, and student utilization to said resources as a result of effective instruction on how to procure them.
Expected Outcome #2
Over the course of the 2019-2020 academic year, our Media program will foster long-term and mutually-rewarding relationships with families and the surrounding community by opening the program to volunteers and engaging the PTSA in school-wide literacy initiatives such as reading competitions, character creation contests, and evening events.
