Meet Miss Sheehan

Hello! My name is Anne Sheehan and I am the AIG teacher at Turner Creek Elementary. The 2023-2024 school year is my 21st year of teaching.   Before coming to Wake County I taught 5th grade, 3rd grade, and 2nd grade in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, NC.   I have been teaching in WCPSS for almost 13 years.

I come from a big family and I love it! I have 5 siblings and the world's greatest dad.  I have a twin sister who lives in Cary, NC.  The rest of my family is spread all around the country at the moment. My siblings can be found in Indianapolis, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Davidson, NC.  My dad is retired and enjoying life in Dublin, New Hampshire.

In my free time I enjoy reading, drinking hot coffee, cooking, running, and exploring the North Carolina Museum of Art.  I also enjoying spoiling my 10 nephews and nieces as much as possible. I am the luckiest auntie! A few winters ago I was fortunate enough to travel to China for three weeks and teach at a camp for high ability students. It was one of the most amazing opportunities of my life - so far!

I started my journey as a teacher at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  There I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education.  A few years later I decided to go back and earn my master's degree in reading at Wingate University.  Early on in my career I began working in classrooms where the AIG students were clustered together and it was simply amazing.  It inspired me to learn more about gifted education.

And so, I went back to UNC Charlotte to study gifted education and earned my AIG certification in grades K-12.   My ultimate career goal is to earn my doctorate in Gifted Education.  You could definitely describe me as a lifelong learner!

As an AIG teacher I have many goals for myself and my students.  My most important goal is to provide our AIG students with the best support possible as they move through elementary school.  I want to be able to support my students in achieving sustained academic success while simultaneously building on their own strengths and challenges.  Along the way I know I will also be able to foster and build independent, strong-willed, and unique lifelong learners.
