Read & Lead Book Club meets in the Library to read during our Smart Block time. Please join us for any or all book discussions!
We'll meet most Mondays, working around holidays/workdays. There is a calendar at the very bottom of this page to see the books and dates, watch it to fill soon!
Listen for announcements and sign up in All Timely the week before, we make plenty of room for everyone to come!
Look for our display in the library of all the books we're going to read this year. We've set the 15 and their leaders, listed below to last through March so start reading!
We have a full list of leaders with a book left, sign up on this contact form!
We don't keep a roster but we will take a club photo in January so listen for our time and location January 13!

For our student-led book club to be the best it can be, take the time to plan a full 30 minutes of activity with the readers. You could print out this agenda, use the white board, or make a slideshow to run on the Promethean Board. (Email Mrs. Thrash at ethrash @ wcpss.net if you need access to the slideshow.)
Here are is a sample agenda:
9:23 - Welcome
Remind everyone of the next few books on the website list to be ready to discuss.
Introduce yourself
Tell us some favorite things you love about the books and series and why you chose this book to lead!
9:25-9:35 - Have 3-5 really good and deep discussion questions.
Depending on the number of students, discussions could be everyone who comes, if we're less than 10, or could be at tables so 4 are discussing together.
You can find good questions on the authors or publishers websites.
An example might be not just "Who is your favorite character?" but "Which character do you identify with the most and why?"
Keep the discussion going, don't go off on too many tangents or side conversations!
9:35-9:52 - Do an activity that is fun and related to the books.
Arts and Crafts - make bookmarks or origami related to the book
Make a display to promote this book in the library
Role Play
Read Aloud of a favorite scene while Characters act it out
