We will be providing both In-Person instruction and Remote instruction to students.
Please understand that we are obligated to provide live instruction to students in our Virtual Academy, students who are in a Cohort that is rotated out and not in-person, and students who are in-person in the school.
A student who is assigned to come in for In-Person learning, but participates remotely, will be marked as “present” and in attendance for school.
We will do this while also balancing screen time for a student for health and safety reasons.
On Tuesday we will operate our Drive Time schedule. Students will be required to attend their Drive Time class each Tuesday.
On Remote Learning Days, we will operate on our Remote Learning Day Bell Schedule. Teachers will not be providing live instruction, but they will be available during Student Hours each Period to support student learning.
Asynchronous Learning Days will be utilized during Inclement Weather days and other days (e.g., ACT Administration, etc.) when Teachers will not be available to provide Student Hours. Teachers will communicate assignments/school work to students to work on independently.
We have built in a “mask break” into our daily Bell Schedule. Contingent on the weather, students will be escorted out of the building and be allowed to remove their face covering to have a mask break. This mask break will occur after First Period ends.
Students will have another mask break opportunity during Lunch. When a student is finished eating Lunch, we will allow the student to move into the Courtyard to have a mask break. We have placed markings where students may sit/stand to enjoy their mask break at this time. There are a limited number of spaces available for students to safely enjoy a mask break, so students may be asked to return to the Cafeteria to allow other students to take a mask break.
ATTENDANCE
If a student is in Plan A and does not physically attend, the student will be marked absent per WCPSS Board Policy 4400. If a student is not physically attending for reasons that would not be considered excused under section C of Policy 4400, then the student should be marked absent as unexcused.
If a student in Plan A requires quarantining due to a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 or exposure, the student should be marked absent-excused, similar to a student who is absent for any of the reasons in section C of Policy 4400. Any students who are absent for excused reasons per Policy 4400 should be provided remote learning access that is available at the school.
There is an expectation for all teachers to continue providing updates and assignments in the teacher’s Learning Management System.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Students should maintain social distancing standards when entering the classroom and while inside the classroom during the class period.
Upon entering the classroom, students should go directly to their seats, get their instructional materials ready for class, and follow teacher directions.
To maintain social distancing standards, students should receive permission from the teacher prior to moving around the room during class.
If a student needs to take a drink of water, the student should stay as far away as possible from others while their face covering is removed for drinking. Six feet of social distancing is recommended, but not required.
Students may briefly pull down their face covering to drink out of their personal water bottle or drink from a cup. They must immediately put their face covering back on when they are done drinking.
Face coverings should only be removed for a minute or less for water breaks.
Students should not socialize or talk to others when their face covering is removed.
Follow these Expectations for Students in a Remote and In-Person Environment.
TECHNOLOGY
Our school has a limited number of laptops to allow students to use each day when they are in school for In-Person learning. Most devices have been checked out to students for Remote learning.
While in Remote learning, students will continue to work virtually using their personal devices or the devices provided by WCPSS.
While In-Person learning, students who either have their own device or have been provided with a WCPSS device, should plan to bring their device (and charger) to and from school each day they are In-Person learning. We also encourage all students to bring headphones with them to school to use.
Students who do not have a device they can bring to school can sign-in and sign-out a laptop each day. After successfully completing their Health Screening, a student should report immediately to the front of the Library to sign-out a laptop to use for the entire day at school. Prior to exiting the school and heading home, the student will need to return the laptop to the front of the Library so that we can disinfect the device and prepare the device for use the following day.
A student cannot share a device with another student.
If a student brings their personal device to school, the school will need to follow BYOD guidelines (listed below). If the student does not bring their device, they cannot share a device with another student.
To support technology efforts, we ask the following:
Bring the device charged to school each day.
Bring the device charger to school each day.
Make sure your personal device is clearly labeled with your name.
If you are using a WCPSS-owned device, do not write on the device or use duct tape or other sticky tapes that would cause damage.
Students with personal devices need to be able to independently use their device as the teacher cannot touch the device.
Before going home, power off the device and put it in your backpack.
Never throw your backpack, especially when your device is inside!
Keep sharp objects away from your device
Don’t share your device with anyone.
Don’t touch someone else’s device.
Check to make sure nothing is sitting on your keyboard before closing the lid of your device.
If your device is not working properly, let your parent/guardian/teacher know. Do not throw it in the trash.
If a student has a WCPSS device, the device will automatically join the WCPSS wireless network.
If you bring a personal device, you will have to connect it to the guest network (directions will be provided).
Use the device for instructional purposes only.
Students should close the device or share the screen if asked by the teacher.
Students should always keep their device in their possession and not leave it unattended.
