We are excited that WCPSS is allowing us to communicate with students and families using google meet! Although you can't completely replace being in the same room with your classmates and teachers, it'll still be great to see and hear each other. Note, the first few times you participate, some time will be spent getting everyone connected and familiar with the platform. The directions below should help you prepare and get ready to join a google meet, but please be patient as everyone gets logged in and works to get connected.
The chrome browser works best for joining a meet session. Using the nickname sent by your teacher, access google meet through the icon in WakeID, select join or start a meeting, and enter the nickname given to you by your teacher. Note: you will not be able to join a meet until a teacher has joined the meet. Once you're in, click on the microphone icon to turn your microphone off, it's up to you if you would like to have your camera on!
Grid View: Installing this extension in the chrome browser allows you to see everyone while meeting: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-meet-grid-view/bjkegbgpfgpikgkfidhcihhiflbjgfic?hl=en-US
It is suggested that tablet/phone users first download the "Hangouts Meet by Google" app. When you log in, select "Meeting Code." Enter your teacher's nickname to join, remember, you will be unable to join until a teacher has joined the meet. Before entering, choose whether you want your camera on, turn the microphone off, and enter your name to join (similar to the computer version above).
A final way to join the hangout is by calling in using the phone number and access code provided by your teacher. Using this method, you'll be able to hear and participate by audio only.
The video on the right will give you a general view of what it looks like once you've logged into a google meet as well as a quick overview of some of the tools available to you.
