Another school year is here!
Our SLPs are enjoying working with speech students after recharging this summer!
It usually takes a few weeks to work out scheduling glitches for an optimal speech schedule to best meet your student's needs! Thanks for your patience. Please be on notice for information from elementary schools regarding hearing screenings for students in grade K, 1, and 2.
Please contact the new lead SLP, Kristina Joyner (kristinajoyner@wcps.org), regarding any questions or concerns about speech services.

Welcome Back!!! We are looking foward to a great school year.
Just a note that mass hearing screenings for grades K, 1, and 2 will take place in October this year, rather than September.
Your school SLP will be in touch with information regarding speech services for your student, and you are welcome to contact the school to inquire further with any questions you may have! We are EXCITED about another successful year ahead!

WELCOME BACK!
SLPS completed mass hearing screenings at all elementary schools last week and school speech services are underway. As principals continue to refine school schedules, and students continue to enroll and transfer in, SLPs are tweaking the speech schedule so your student will have minimal disruption on their academic day.
Please reach out to the school or child care center if you have any questions for the SLP. You will meet at least once this year for your child's IEP annual review. It will occur within a year of the last IEP meeting.
We hope your child has a fantastic school year!

Thanks for a great year, please continue to use this site to expand speech and language skills. Speech language services will resume next school year after mass hearing screenings. Stay tuned for more information!
August 2022
Welcome, parents and students!
Contact the speech language pathologist assigned to your setting for more information regarding the upcoming school year. Please note SLPs are involved in mass hearing screenings, which will take place for Kindergarten, first, and second grade students on the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after Labor Day (9-6 through 9-8-22). Regular speech services should be in place after all schools and preschool centers have revised schedules, classroom counts, and finalized positions.
Please be patient with your SLP as she coordinates speech times around academic instruction and electives, (meals and rest times in preschool centers) as this is a challenging task.
Thank you for allowing us to work with your students, and please reach out any time you have questions or concerns. This website is a resource for you to use to supplement communication enhancement at home, which is critical for carryover and success.
Have a GREAT year!
May 2022
The school year is almost over! SLPs are busy transitioning preschool students to kindergarten in their districted schools, as well as wrapping up initial referrals, annual reviews, and re-evaluations due this school year.
Please contact your SLP if you have questions about how to enhance communication skills this summer, and there are many great links on this website to check out! It will greatly benefit your child to target speech skills through fun and reinforcing activities while they are out of school.
Expect the SLP to reach out to you about eligible students at the beginning of next school year. Typically, school SLPs are involved in mass hearing screenings through the week after Labor Day (September). As always, contact us any time regarding communication needs, and we thank you for your support.

Happy New Year!
Two reporting periods down, and two to go as we reach the halfway point of this school year. Just a reminder that students receiving speech services, both direct and indirect, have annual reviews of goals at least once each school year. Progress reports are sent at the end of each reporting period, usually through your student's case manager or classroom teacher.
At ANY time, you may contact your speech language pathologist with questions...you do not have to wait for the review meeting. Please reach out to the SLP with any questions or concerns you may have. The goal of speech therapy in the schools is to help students access their education in the least restrictive educational setting, with minimum disruptions to their academic day.
Feel free to call your child's educational setting (school or preschool) and ask for SLP contact information (email or office phone) if you do not have this information.
Wishing your student and family a great 2022!
