How much time should I expect to spend on the Personal Project?

You are expected to spend approximately 25 hours on your Personal Project.


What are the Personal Project supervisor's responsibilities?

Your supervisor will give you guidance throughout your Project. He or she will not necessarily be an expert in the topic you have chosen, but will help to keep you on track so that you can meet the deadlines.


You and your supervisor will meet regularly. During these meetings, your supervisor will sign of on your meeting log, which will reflect your progress and help you to keep on track.


Your supervisor is also responsible for

  • ensuring the chosen MYP project topic satisfies appropriate legal and ethical standards with regard to health and safety, confidentiality, human rights, animal welfare and environmental issues

  • providing guidance to students in the process and completion of the project

  • confirming the authenticity of the work submitted

    • including signing the academic honesty form provided by the IB to note meeting dates and the main points discussed and to declare the academic honesty of work.

  • assessing the MYP project using the Personal Project assessment criteria on Managebac

  • participating in the standardization of assessment process established by the school

  • providing personal project scores to the MYP Personal Project Coordinator on Managebac


Can I work with other people to complete my Personal Project?

The Personal Project is an individual endeavor, so you may not work in pairs or small groups to work together on one project. However, you may have and even need the assistance of others to accomplish the goal you set for your project. For example, if you want to write and direct the performance of a modern adaptation of a fairytale for elementary school students or organize a group in order to do a neighborhood clean up, you may certainly have the assistance of others to accomplish the goal.
