"Principal encouragement has emerged as a key factor in the growth of new teachers. New teachers, who highlighted the important role their principal played in their development, trusted their principal. They felt they could speak openly about their learning without the worry of being judged. Simply put, new teachers felt they had their principal’s support."
NTIP Induction Elements, 2019
Teachers hired to their first LTO (80+ days) - must complete LTO evaluation and Strategy Form
Teachers in their first year permanent - must complete 2 consecutive successful TPAs and Strategy Form (gets submitted with TPA documents)
Teachers not needing an evaluation, but are in their first 5 years of teaching and require additional supports through NTIP (resources, mentoring, etc.) - likely to not have any evaluative component
The first 2 groups of teachers should be identified by HR, who will send you their names and further information regarding evaluations/appraisals. The latter can be referred to the NTIP Consultant by you.
If you are new to NTIP as a principal, review the 15 min Orientation.
Ensure your new teacher has a mentor. They can ask a colleague in your school, a colleague from another school, seek your advice on who to ask, refer to the Mentor Roster, or ask the NTIP consultant.
Either you or a mentor (or another experienced colleague) can provide the new teacher an in-school orientation (Elementary & Secondary).
Discuss areas where the new teacher requires learning - this information will populate their NTIP Strategy Form (more info below).
Check out this video from mVal support on completing NTIP TPAs. Or head over to the main mVal help site for more info.
NOTE: It may initially send you to "Redirect Notice" page. It is okay to click the link that page displays. Once opened, click the Slide Show tab at the top of the page, then click From Beginning.
"These are extraordinary times for every stakeholder in education. This will be a back to school like no other, and our usual plans and processes will need to change. Within our schools, the uncertainties have created a sense of unease – a worry about the unknown. We also know that many of our students and staff have anxiety about their physical health as we return to school ..."

This pdf provides a general timeline to follow with your NTIP teachers. Of course, this can be modified, usually due to late year hiring.
Detailed information and advice for guiding NTIP teachers.
Every beginning teacher must complete this form throughout their time in NTIP. Mentors and principals are asked to provide guidance and suggestions when NTIP teachers are completing the form.
Each year, every teacher must complete an Annual Learning Plan (ALP). While in NTIP, the Strategy Form serves as the NTIP Teacher's ALP.
At the end of their LTO assignment or TPA process, this form must be signed by their Principal. This means that the form must be a point of conversation between the NTIP teacher and principal during their time in NTIP.
Note: this will prompt you to "Make a Copy" of the document. NTIP teachers are asked to share their copy with you and mentor(s) as an easy way to collaborate. You can add comments and make suggestions directly on the doc if you wish.
Permanent Teachers: After being initialed and signed by the NTIP teacher and principal, you must submit the Strategy Form along with the Teacher Performance Appraisal documents to HR. A copy is then sent to OCT as proof that the NTIP teacher has successfully completed NTIP, as it is a requirement to no longer be a probationary teacher.
LTO Teachers: After being initialed and signed by the NTIP teacher and principal, NTIP teachers will keep this form for their own records. It serves as proof of growth and development to when the teacher attends later interviews, as well as for their own record of professional development.
HR will send the names of teachers needing their 1st, 2nd, or both TPAs, as well as documents/programs needed to complete the appraisal.

HR will send the names of teachers needing their LTO Evaluation, as well as documents/programs needed to complete the evaluation. LTO Evaluations are not a part of NTIP. However, we do support LTO Teachers as they simultaneously go through the evaluation.
