All teacher in their first LTO of 80+ days or in their first year of a permanent contract in Ontario are required to successfully complete NTIP. It is provided as a support to you in these crucial first years, and can help plant the seeds of life-long learning and reflexive, collaborative practice.
The New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) is the second job-embedded step along a continuum of professional learning for new teachers, building on and complementing the first step: initial teacher education programs. It provides professional support to help new teachers develop the requisite skills and knowledge to be effective as teachers in Ontario.
We can also support occasional teachers and permanent teachers in their first 5 years of a permanent contract. They can optionally join, but their participation and available support is dependent on different variables. They should also review the Orientation materials below.
NTIP Orientation is broken down into 2, self-guided steps.
Step 1 involves understanding NTIP via Orientation slides (with narration).
Step 2 involves completing a brief start-up survey, found at the end of the Orientation slides.
Please complete both steps within the first few weeks of receiving your Welcome to NTIP email.
TECHNICAL NOTE: To access all Orientation materials, as well as most other NTIP resources, you will need to be logged in to your WCDSB account. If you are not logged in to your WCDSB account, it should prompt you to do so.

Every new teacher must complete this form throughout their time in NTIP. Your mentor(s) and principal will make recommendations and provide support along the way to complete your goals.
Each year, every teacher must complete an Annual Learning Plan (ALP). While in NTIP, the Strategy Form serves as your ALP.
At the end of your LTO assignment or TPA process, this form must be signed by your Principal. This means that the form must be a point of conversation between you and your Principal before the end of the teaching assignment/year.
Note: this will prompt you to "Make a Copy" of the document. Please do that, and it will automatically save to your Google Drive. Keep it somewhere memorable and add your name to the title. You can then share it with your principal(s) and mentor(s) (it's a VERY easy way to connect and reflect on your development!).
Permanent Teachers: After signing, your principal will submit the form along with your Teacher Performance Appraisal documents to HR. A copy is then sent to OCT as proof that you have successfully completed NTIP, as it is a requirement of your first year permanent.
LTO Teachers: After signing, you keep this form for your own records. It serves as proof of growth and development to Principals in further interviews, as well as for your own record of professional development.
To begin, review steps to NTIP TPA’s and the TPA quick rundown to familiarize yourself with the process. Your principal also has this info and will review it with you.
More detailed information can be found in the WCDSB NTIP Core Competencies Memo APS045, also located on the New Teachers page of the WCDSB NTIP site.
