NTIP is a Ministry mandated program designed to assist New Teachers in their first year(s) teaching. It consists of a mentorship program, resources (to borrow or keep), workshops, networking, and creating a strategy for long-term success and ongoing professional development.
Here is the information you need to know for the time being:
If you received a welcome email from the NTIP Consultant, then YES, you are in NTIP! (Lucky you!)
If you did not receive that email and think you should have, please email matthew.figueiredo@wcdsb.ca to inquire.
If you If you did not receive that email but are in your first 5 years of teaching or an occasional teacher (or LTO), we may still be able to support you. Please email matthew.figueiredo@wcdsb.ca to inquire.
Head to the New Teacher page (using the tabs at the top of the website). Follow the Orientation sections to learn about all things NTIP, including your responsibilities, documentation, mentoring, resources, etc.
Mentoring is an essential component of your time in NTIP and can serve as a continual source of learning for both you and your mentor(s). This can be done one-on-one or in a group of mentors and new teachers. In either case, this is called an NTIP Team.
All info on NTIP Teams are found in the Orientation and on the NTIP Teams page.
Due to the new operating guidelines brought on by COVID19, we are currently working out how release times may occur. More information will be coming as soon as possible.
Traditionally, this time is spent as a Team in one of your schools. It could be spent observing a lesson followed by a debrief, co-planning or co-teaching, reviewing and reflecting on your work so far, and more.
Updated info on release time will be emailed to you and always updated on the NTIP Teams page.
The Individual NTIP Strategy Form is your working document while you are in the program. You are required to use this form to track your participation in the program. It is designed to be filled by you in consultation with your Mentor and Principal. Therefore, it encourages dialogue between all parties to ensure you receive a breadth of information and experience as you plan for and work towards your goals for the year. Once you have completed the goals laid out (and done 2 TPAs if you are a permanent teacher), you and your Principal must sign the document. Completion of this form is mandatory.
More info on this form is on the New Teacher page, including advice and tips to successfully completing the form.
This depends on whether you are a permanent teacher or LTO in NTIP. There is also the option of rejoining in some situations, depending on the budget and available support.
Permanent Teachers: You are done NTIP when you successfully complete 2 TPAs and complete your Strategy Form (signed and initialed by you and your principal). You can still access NTIP supports for the entire school year; so if you finish your last TPA in March but still want release time, or you want to attend NTIP PD, or borrow a resources, that's perfectly fine.
LTO Teachers: You are done NTIP when you complete your Strategy Form (signed and initialed by you and your principal). You can still access NTIP supports for the remainder of your LTO. If your LTO ends before the end of the school year, we may be able to still provide NTIP support (i.e. release time with mentor, borrowing resources, etc.). The NTIP Consultant will let you know if we are unable to continue providing support (but usually it's not an issue).
