  3. Review poetry structures & elements through examples:

Tuesday, September 17:

1. How to pick a poem apart...TP-CASTT

2. Practice with "To an athlete dying young" and "Daddy" (in Norton Anthology)

Homework:

Finish TP-CASTT with Daddy to turn review tomorrow


Wednesday, September 18:

  1. Share out favorite poem's and why they are beloved :)
    • Each group will 'nominate' one poem that they appreciate the most
  2. Further Practice with TP-CASTT using D.H. Lawrence's Snake.
    • First, analyze
    • Then, write a thesis and outline
      • Prompt: "Read the following poem carefully. Then write an essay in which you discuss how formal elements as language, imagery, structure, and allusions convey meaning in the poem."

Thursday, September 19:

  1. Combine it all together!
    • Station based rotations: Poem Speed Dating
      • Analyze and rate each poem
  2. Write a brief outline on your poem of choice - respond with a thesis and three pieces of evidence to support it (same prompt as yesterday)

Friday, September 20:

1. Review Fences Essay with reflections

2. Time for Poetry Exploration: Pick a poem from a time period and analyze

Homework:

1. None :) Do another poetry exploration if you have the time - you should have about three at this point
