Dear Class of 2020,
The end of the school year is soon approaching and the end of my time as a College Adviser at ECHS. Before you head off to your future endeavors, there are two very important things I need from you!

Although we are not able to celebrate all of your hard work and successes over the last few years in person. We WILL be having a Virtual Decision Day on May 27, 2020 (Wednesday) from 4-5PM.

From its earliest beginnings, the Ed Fund has managed a college scholarship program benefiting low-income graduating seniors of the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Since 2005, over $1.6 million in scholarships have been awarded to over 550 students. Thanks to the Ed Fund's donors, the scholarship program is supported by the African American Scholarship, the Gooden Memorial Scholarship, and the Norma and Arthur Schroeder Family Foundation.

Here is a list of this year's special scholarship opportunities and requirements:
Gooden Award ($1000/per student for 1 year)
Eligibility: (a) Minimum GPA of 2.5 (b) Acceptance into a 2-year institution.
Awards Available: El Cerrito High School (2), Kennedy High School (2), Richmond High School (2)
Schroeder Scholarship ($2000/per student for 1 year)
Eligibility: (a) Minimum GPA of 3.0 (b) Acceptance into a 4-year institution
Awards available: El Cerrito High School (2)
African American Student Scholarship ($1500/year for 4 years)
Eligibility: (a) Acceptance into a 4-year institution (b) Minimum GPA of 3.5
Awards available: (1) for any WCCUSD high school

Their Annual Jackie Herrera scholarship has opened up for any self identifying womxn graduating high school or first year transfer who will be going on to a four year university for the 2020-2021 school year. This year we will be awarding a minimum of four scholarships worth $400 each.

WCC Retired Educators Scholarship of $2,000 is due next week to the College & Career center to Ms. Lupita Romo on April 14th. Students must rank in the top half of their class - so students below the 50% marker will not be considered. For students applying they must have a typed application of all the things they outline, a typed essay (no more than 2 pages, 12-font and 1.5 spacing). All student essays also require a handwritten signature (fully written, no initials).
This scholarship is very particular about the requirements .

This $1,000 scholarship is provided by his family to honor Mr. Porras' commitment to El Cerrito High School and its students. Apply for this scholarship opportunity by April 3rd!
Requirements:
Luis D. Porras was a Spanish teacher and varsity boy’s soccer coach at El Cerrito High School from 2007 to 2014. He passed away from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2015.
Mr. Porras was a dedicated teacher and his classroom was always open to all students at El Cerrito High School. As a language teacher and native Spanish speaker, Mr. Porras was passionate in sharing his knowledge of the Spanish language and culture with his students. As a soccer coach, he encouraged camaraderie and sportsmanship. In both capacities, what Mr. Porras appreciated most was hard work and an eagerness to learn and improve.
The Howard Mackey Gaucho Spirit Scholarship is due May 7, 2020. The new scholarship will be a $1500 annual scholarship endowed by the family of Mr. Mackey. Spring 2020 will be the first Howard Mackey scholarship awarded to an El Cerrito high school student.
Scholarship requirements are-
