Climate Change

What is climate change, and what is causing the climate change that we are experiencing today?

  • Well, climate change is the warming of the Earth. If the climate warms too much, then the ice at either poles will melt and we won't have ice anymore. This will destroy ecosystems and cause animals to go extinct. The reason this change is happening is due to the incresed amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Green house gases trap heat, which helps keep us warm, but too much of it is causing an irreversible change.

How might climate change affect your site in the future?

  • If the Earth gets warmer, the water in the pond will start to evaporate rapidly. This will cause the pond to dry out, which will affect all the fish and plants that live there. Also, if we keep going with the deforestation, the trees around the pond are most likely to get cut down too. This will cause even more animals to lose their habitats. This will also end up disturbing the normal cycle of nature and the food web of that ecosystem. It's sort of like a domino effect. When one falls down, everything else fall down too.

What can you do or can others do to mitigate climate change?

  • One thing we can do is plant more trees. Trees take the carbon out of the air, so this can help reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the air. Another thign we can do is switch to having less meat and more plants in your diet. Meat production itself has a huge effect on climate change so decreaing the demand can help a lot. Another solution could be to use your car less. You can bike, walk or even use buses, but using your car less can reduce the emissions from your car.
