Hi! I'm Beth Marshall
I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself, I am Beth Marshall, Program Coordinator, and Early Childhood Education Faculty. My personal pronouns are she/her.
A bit about me - I worked in this field for over 30 years. I started out as a classroom aide when I was a student. I worked my way up to teacher, director, and trainer for resource and referral organizations. I was the Director of Early Childhood Education at HighScope Educational Research Foundation, where I developed curriculum and assessment materials and professional development sessions. I conducted many long-term training projects and was fortunate to have worked with educators throughout the United States and in South Africa, Ireland, UK, Finland, Mexico and Canada. Most recently, I was an Education Consultant for Detroit Public Television. I left there to take my dream job - teaching you!
One thing to know about me - I am passionate about early childhood education and I LOVE working with you! I want you to be successful in reaching both your professional and educational goals.
I am very excited about this semester and am eager to reconnect or get to know each of you!
We will have some on-campus learning options as well! ECD 101, section 1, ECD 200, and ECD 210 will all take place in our classroom on campus. You can find us in Occupational Education, Room 129.
Our in-person classes use active, participatory learning and collaborative learning groups to connect the content of what you are learning to your work as an early childhood teacher.
Virtual classes offer you the connection of an on-campus class by using online meetings. Each week, our class will meet for content, activities, discussions, and hands-on learning. We'll use breakout rooms for collaborative learning groups. Part of your instruction takes place online in Blackboard, our online classroom. There, you'll find weekly announcements, slides from our class sessions, and supportive feedback on your assignments. I strive to return e-mails within 24 hours during the week and offer online office hours for one-on-one support.
Online classes allow the most flexibility for students to work when they have time. Weekly due dates mean that you can complete your assignments morning, noon or night. Online classes are designed by a team of teachers, designers and technicians, helping to make WCC the #1 Online Community College in Michigan! You'll receive weekly announcements, supportive feedback on your assignments, e-mails returned within 24 hours during the week, online course content and online office hours for one-on-one support!
