Caving - Elver Canyon

Meet students at WBHS van shed and prepare for the trip
8:30am
Depart WBHS
9:10am
Arrive at Waipu Caves car park
Gear up and head up the hill
10:00am
Enter Elver Canyon via “Pregnancy Pot”
Head down into the bottom of the cave, exploring the “clean washed passage” both upstream and downstream from where the cave forks
After exploring the cave we will head back the way that we came.
3:00 - 6:30 pm
Exit cave
Head down to the van
Get changed
3:30 - 7:00pm
Depart Waipu Caves
4:00 - 7:30pm
Arrive at WBHS
Hose down all dirty gear, hang it all up to dry in the van shed
Clean out thermoses in back of D18
4:30 - 8:00 pm
Students free to go home.
IMPORTANT - this time can have a large variation depending on how people move through the cave.
Students will be in contact with home about 30-45 minutes before they will be ready to go home
8:00pm
If the school (Mr JT Thomas) has not heard from us by 8:00pm they will initiate late return procedures.
Gear supplied by each student:
Thermals, warm socks, towel, change of clothes
A bag for their wet clothes
A water bottle
Lunch and personal snacks
Personal medications
Gear supplied by the school:
Caving overalls, helmets, lights, white soled gumboots, maps, cave bags, ropes, harnesses, specialist caving safety equipment, and first aid equipment.

Students may arrive and leave in mufti
The cave is technical/tight in places – this may slow the group down. The exit time may well be delayed due to this.
