I am excited about getting to teach Art again this year! It is always my goal to instill an enjoyment of creating within my students. We all have different interests and backgrounds with art and I love to foster that in whatever ways I find most beneficial to each of my students, most often in an individualized way. There is so much excitement and enjoyment in seeing the twinkle in a student's eyes when they've just learned that they CAN create something beautiful, something that they can be proud of. We like to have fun in art class and learn at high levels, with high expectations, in order to gain the most from our experience.
I love creating art, especially oil painting! I also love being creative with technology. I spend a lot time with my family and have a lot of interests in various things.
I have a long line of educational experience, even back in high school. As a high school student, I led an after school art program for younger students, participated and held offices in Art and TSA clubs, and taught personal art lessons.
In college, while attending (more than) full-time as a college student, I volunteered at childcare centers and Preschool/ Head-Start centers regularly each week, observed and volunteered in schools regularly, continued teaching personal art lessons, and substitute taught full-time during my last few years of college. During this time as a full-time college student I also taught in three full-term substitute teacher positions (at WCHS - Biological, Physical, and Earth Science, Walker Elementary - self-contained, and Wayne County ATC - Health Sciences).
I have taught, as a certified teacher in 1st (self-contained), 2nd (Writing, Math), 5th (Reading, Science, Math), 6th, 7th, and 8th grades (Art).
My professional certifications are in: Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (birth-PreK), Elementary Education (P-5), Educational Leadership/Principalship (P-12), and Art Education (P-12). I hold 5 college degrees (2 Associate, 1 Bachelors, and 2 Masters) but am so grateful to get to teach my passion, ART!!!
I currently teach Art (grades 6-8) and am a Digital Learning Coach (DLC) for our staff. My purpose as a DLC is to assist in providing an enriched experience for our students, staff, and parents as technologies develop, change, and improve. As a DLC, I welcome you to please let me know if there is anything I can assist you with, whether it's finding a website to make your life easier, make learning more fun or engaging, or to troubleshoot through technological problems you encounter.
To provide the best quality of education to my students, I also take college classes and complete professional development in areas relating to everything from 3D printing, technology-integration, art, theater, and much more in order to provide a richer experience for my students and to continue to develop as a life-long learner.
