First Semester - Lesson Plans

Week 1 - Emergency Procedures and Expectations in music class.

Week 2 - Our favorite songs!!! We will sing and dance to a few of them. - Singing "Alphabet Song" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", both songs share the same tune. Students will be given the opportunity to share what they think a star sounds like. I'll be using a clip (1:11-1:22 || 2:10 - 3:16) from 'Louie Giglio Mashup of Stars and Whales Singing god's Praise' on

Students will also hear actual star sounds from NASA's Kepler Space Telescope. Star Sounds

Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes, Hokie Pokie - we will be singing and dancing. Review procedures and expectations.

Week 3 - New songs - Counting songs - When I Was One, I Ate A Bun Going Over The Sea; One, Two The Cow Says Moo, Three, Four The Lion Roars; One, Two, Buckle My Shoe; This Old Man

Week 4 - Friendship -Meet my friend Mr. Rogers he's going to sing a song about friends, "You are My Friend, You Are Special" by Mr. Rogers. Games we can play with friends( 1 potato, 2 potato, 3 potato 4 & Head & Shoulders Baby- Hand clap). We will also learn "Purple Light", a cowboy song about being alone and that's just fine too.

Week 5 - Learning to "pass" with "Come and Pass the Sticks Around, Play This Game of Mine"....don't get too hung up on it and you will do just fine.....shoulder, shoulder, knee, knee, tap, tap, pass.....Review songs from previous weeks.

Week 6 - Jazzy ABC - music app - We're starting our exploration of music through this app and we will go through the alphabet learning about music.

Week 7 - A is for Anthem. The name of our national anthem is "The Star Spangled Banner". We will be learning the words to this song to sing at the end of year program. Sing - "A Sailor went to Sea".

Week 8 - B is for Brass Instruments: Tuba, Trumpet, Trombone, & French Horn... it's also for the Baton. Mr. Roger's Brass Instruments lesson

Week 9 - C is for Conductor, the conductor uses the baton to tell the musicians the Tempo (speed) and Dynamics ( Piano = soft, Forte = loud)

Week 10 - D is for Dynamics. We will also take a look at drums too. Forte - Piano

Week 11 - E is for Early Music, music from long ago. And we will listen to the King of Rock & Roll - Elvis.

Week 12 - F is for Folk Music, which is music of the people... singing "Down in the Valley" and "Boil them Cabbage Down"

Week 13 - G is for Guitar, and every student will get to play the guitar.

Week 14 - H is for Harmony. A hymn, Amazing Grace, in harmony

Week 15 - I is for Intervals.

Week 16 - J is for Jazz, Ms. Amy's favorite kind of music. Students will see and hear swing bands and the dance that people did during the 1940s and Rockabilly. We will start our Christmas season with the Jazz rendition of "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

Week 17 - K is for Keyboard. All students will play "Mary Had A Little Lamb" on the keyboard.

Week 18 - L is for Lullaby. We will sing and listen to some lullabies, including "Away in a Manger" , "Silent Night", and "Oh Christmas Tree".

Week 19 - M is for Melody (the tune that we sing). Christmas songs: Two Front Teeth, Oh Christmas Tree, Mele Kalikimaka, C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S, and other Christmas Carols. N - Nutcracker Ballet.
