Parents/Guardians and Students,

As you are fully aware, this is starting out as a very different year in education for all of us. We are definitely going to be a part of history! With that being said, let us take advantage and fight the status quo of being in despair. Let’s face these challenges head on but give yourself patience, flexibility, and some grace.

Students- this is your “When I was in school…” story! Therefore, when you are as old as your parents or grandparents, and possibly great grandparents, this is the challenge you can say you overcame. Gain some grit!

Parents/Guardians- this is your insurance on when your child is giving their future children a hard time... you can call them out on their bluff on how “tough” they were or had it ;) while YOU are the one making sure they are doing their job as a student and taking care of business in a Pandemic!

All jokes aside. Students, welcome to 8th grade math! I am so excited to be your 8th grade math teacher this year! One thing that I want you to know is that I want to be here (virtually) and I am glad to be here (virtually) with you. I know that we will be spending a lot of time with each other-virtually. I look forward to learning about all of you during this time.

A little information to help you learn a little about me. All of my family is from Monticello; however, my family moved to Lancaster, KY when I was in middle school! I guess that made me realize how impactful this age is and how I want to leave an impact for students at this age. I did meet my husband Austin Shearer here in Monticello. We have been married for almost 5 years and recently moved back. I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2019 with my Bachelor's in Middle Grade Mathematics and K-12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education. This is my second year in teaching altogether and my second year at WCMS. It is definitely home!

Obviously, I like math and I want you to try to like it too! Yet, I know that we all will not like it… sadly. However, that does not mean you cannot TRY. I will be here to help you and try to make it as painless as possible. You can rock this!

I hope that we all have a great school year and return to in person instruction sooner rather than later! Contact me through email at any time as well as contact my Google Voice phone number (within reasonable times) at 502-286-8515. Looking forward to working with you all!
