Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Art Museums

Original Webinar Date: June 1, 2022

MAEA Watch Party Date: June 8, 2022

Webinar Presenting Team: Laura Gomez, Sarah Boyd Alvarez, and Celeste Fetta

Watch Party Hosts: Emily Scheinberg

About the MAEA Companion Discussion:

Classroom and community educators join with museum educators to discuss equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts taking place largely behind-the-scenes in art museums for both in-person programs and digital initiatives. Emily will invite participants to reflect on how these efforts, some successful, some not, impacted experiences for teachers and students, and to envision the continued evolution of museum education.

Meet your host

Emily Scheinberg

Emily Scheinberg is Head of Educator Resources and Professional Development at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Emily is excited to be running a new initiative called Art Finders that provides personalized recommendations of works of art to classroom teachers. She works with a team of volunteer MFA gallery instructors and a cohort of K-12 teacher consultants to develop Art Finders slide decks that are intended to foreground representation, tell more inclusive histories, and work against bias.

Emily also particularly enjoys leading PD workshops focused on teaching with art and/or primary sources, and has done so in various roles over the last 15 years. Emily previously worked in education at the Peabody Essex Museum, the Jewish Women's Archive, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum (San Francisco). She was proud to receive recognition from MAEA in 2013, and was named NAEA Eastern Region Art Museum Educator of the Year in 2015.

About The MAEA Watch Party Discussion Series

The MAEA Watch Party Discussion Series are ten companion discussions facilitated by MAEA leaders, members, and selected guests who bring their unique experiences to each month's topic. Watching the NAEA webinars is not a prerequisite, however doing so will enhance attendees' general knowledge of the topic. For the 2021 - 2022 Watch Party series, MAEA facilitators will engage participants in open conversation, share helpful resources, and promote a supportive space for all to join in. These discussions will relate back to the theme of the NAEA webinars, but will include stand alone content so that they are not exactly the same.

Please note that registration for the MAEA Watch Party Discussion Series does not include automatic registration for the NAEA webinars. The NAEA webinars are a separate offering through the National Art Education Association. NAEA members may register for these webinars at no cost, but there is a fee for non-members. Visit
