ORFF Instruments: xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels
Students at Happy Hollow use Orff instruments to build ensemble playing skills, improvise, compose, and learn about pitch.
MOVEMENT: Scarves, STicks, ribbons, folk dances, Beat Games, Creative MoveMent
We use a variety of props or just their bodies to experience music through movement. Movement can be a means of self expression or lead to a deeper understanding of music. We move to a variety of styles including but not limited to pop, classical, rock, jazz, blues, hiphop, and music from other countries.
Drums
Students use hand drums to build ensemble playing and rhythm performing skills.
GAMES
We play games to practice skills such as beat keeping, note reading, and singing. We use games to build non music life skills such as communication, turn taking, and developing positive relationships.
Singing
Students develop their singing voice in music class and have the opportunity to sing in the Happy Hollow after school chorus in 4th and 5th grade. Singing is a part of how we celebrate special occasions, come together as a community, and express ourselves.
Ukulele
Ukulele is a string instrument taught in the upper grades to accompany singing using chords.
