Mountain Biking

Lifetime: Mountain Biking Unit

In the Mountain Biking unit students will learn the benefits of biking: exploration, socialization, cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. The unit will teach the importance of balance, reaction time, vision while students have the opportunity to ride their mountain bikes around our track and on designated trails around the school. Students will learn the importance of bike safety, the ABC's checking air, brakes and chain before riding.

Flag Football

The flag football unit will begin with learning proper throwing and catching technique of a football. Students will practice throwing and catching each class for an assessment at the end of the unit. Students will then learn different routes they can use in a flag football game. By the end of the unit students should understand basic rules of flag football including positions and scoring of a game.

Tennis

This beginner tennis course that is designed to introduce students to fundamentals of tennis. Game

rules, etiquette and basic strategy for singles and doubles will be covered. The course will cover skills

such as ball control, forehand/backhand drive, drive/lob serve, forehand/backhand lob, smash, and strategy.

      • Shelby- true story about drinking too much and explaining the following woven into the story:. BAC Wheel, what to do if you friend has had too much or wants to drink more, when to call 911,
      • HW: Alcohol conversation with an adult they live with at home


MARIJUANA

    • Edibles and MA marijuana laws (Jason Verhoosky from Wayland Cares is a guest speaker)

Intro to Fitness and the use of PLT4M

An introduction to the world of barbells! Our primary focus is becoming comfortable with a loaded bar for the first time. Namely, we will be introducing the 3 “power lifts”- aka the Back Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift. These 3 movements are widely considered the foundational strength movements. Not only will learning them be directly beneficial to health and performance through the development of baseline, full-body strength, they will also serve as a great jumping off point for the rest of our weight room movements.



Volleyball

People of all levels of experience are encouraged to enjoy this leisure/recreational activity. This

course will acquaint students with the fundamentals of volleyball. Setting, passing, serving, attacking and

basic team strategies will be taught. Students will be proficient in the rules of the game.

DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE

  • What is depression, how do you know if you have it, difference between the blues and depression, where to get help, when to be concerned about yourself or a friend, different ways that depression manifests itself in people.


  • We use the SOS program for Suicide education and prevention


SEXTING

  • What is it? Why are the adults so concerned about it? What are the possible long term consquences of sending nude/semi nude pictures of yourself? What is the problem of asking for a picture of someone.
  • What can you do if you are asked to send a picture? How to say no. Who to talk to when you feel uncomfortable.


SEXUAL HARASSMENT

  • Defining the differences between flirting, sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape
  • Not always what you say, but how you say it, WHO said, under what context
  • When (and if ever) is sexual harassment a crime, possible consequences
  • What options you have if you have been sexually harassed
  • What could you do if you were a a collegeue in this situation
  • Interview an adult in your house about sexual harassment
